Starting out in News and Docos at the ABC, Dan learnt from some of the biggest names in the business including Oscar Nominee Bob Conolly. He worked on stories as varied as the Villawood fires for 730 Report or the international hunt for the HMAS Sydney for Rewind.
After being nominated as ABC TV’s Young Australian Leader, Dan headed off to New York where he started Straighty180 productions. The team grew rapidly and in a short space of time his work has been recognised in Australia, the US and Europe.
Dan’s first music video was awarded internationally and appeared in massive line ups alongside the likes of Bjork, the White Stripes, the Foo Fighters and Feist. Directing both at home and in the US he has worked with world famous artists like Travis McCoy (Gym Class Heroes) and Delta Goodrem. Along the way he smashed pianos with trains and blew up microwaves with teddy bears.
He then tried his hand at directing live concerts – his DVD for Delta’s Believe Again tour was a number 1 hit reaching Gold.
His work in advertising has been equally well received as well. His campaign for Sunsilk was featured around the Asia Pacific and he was nominated this year for Shots Magazines Young director of the year.
In his spare time he relaxes by making even more films. He recently finished work on a second series of viral hit Trent From Punchy. (6million hits and counting). He also indulges his passion for art. His last exhibition “Doodle Archive” was chosen for sponsorship by Absolut Vodka.
